Hi All-
Hoping things are cool in your area, as everything else seems to be heating up (this damn virus and the weather in general). Luckily, we’ve got a few tips to help you beat the heat! It’s been a few weeks, so let’s get down to business and talk Cannabis Crops.
Things are moving pretty quick around The Nevada House, and the cannabis crops are thriving! Two of the plants (the Blue Northern Lights strain) are almost up to my chin! The other three (CherryBerry OG) are growing at a healthy, strong, rate, as I get ready to transition them into their new homes- 5 gallon pots. The extra space in the pots will allow them to grow bigger at a rapid pace, ideally yielding more glorious nugs.
The summer heat has been a factor when tending to the plants. They are needing water almost every other day, as the heat in the stale garage eats up any moisture in the plants, coupled with a heavy amount of fans blowing to keep fresh air circulating. The temps in the tent have been as high as 92 degrees! We’ve combatted this by keeping the tent doors open, AND with a simple suggestion from, you guessed it- Z Baby (guy is just full of ideas!).
In an effort to cool things off, we created a “Swamp Cooler” about a month ago. It’s a simple device consisting of a large styrofoam cooler, a plastic PVC elbow piece, and a battery powered or small plug in fan. Simply cut two holes at each end of the styrofoam cooler, place the PVC joint in one hole, and the fan at the other end, pointing down into the cutout. Load that Swamp Cooler up with ice and you get some solid AC blowing! When keeping the tent closed, the swamp cooler can lower the internal temp by 5-10 degrees. The only pain in the ass is constantly cycling ice on a regular basis; let’s be real though, I’ve got plenty of those in my life these days- so it ain’t a biggie. Pro tip- go for the dry ice!
At this rate, we are hoping to transition all 5 of the plants into the flowering stage at the beginning of September. As a reminder, you force the plants into floweing stage simply by adjusting the light schedule. They are currently on an 18/6 schedule (18 hours on, 6 off). Come September, we will trick the plant hormones into flowering with a 12/12 light cycle. This process will take about 6-8 weeks until harvest time!
That’s all I got for this week, friends. Hoping you are all healthy, happy, and safe. Keep grindin’ away and be on the lookout for some fresh content coming up!
